Blogger Spotlight; THE STYLE RAWR

Blogger_Spotlight-StyleRawr

The Style Rawr is one of those blogs that you stumble across and instantly have to had to your favourites. Edited by the dynamic duo Tara (right) and Jade (left), Style Rawr documents their discoverings in beauty and fashion.

This month the ladies have taken a moment or two to answer a few questions that we hope will have you wanting to know more!

How did The Style Rawr come about and how would you describe it?

Tara - "Before the blog, Jade and I would send each other a gazillion emails everyday about hot new brands we'd discovered, what clothes/jewelz we NEEDED and details of our latest celeb style crushes. One day the penny just dropped that there could be like minded fashionistas on the interwebs who might be interested in what we had to say...and hey presto, The Style Rawr was born! It's all about fierce fashion, it's not your typical 'look at me, I'm amazing' blog, it's more of a 'look at this, it's amazing' blog! We try introduce our readers to hawt new designers, make-up products and new high street items that will make them SQUEEE out loud!"

Jade – "We found that people would ‘listen in’ on our Twitter and Facebook chats because they were interested in the stuff we were style spotting, so we like to blog as if we are still chatting to each other. We don’t always tell each other what we are posting about, so it’s still fun when we see each other’s new fashion wants or discoveries on new posts!"

How would you describe your individual styles and what mostly inspires you?

T - "I dress to suit my mood so my style varies from day to day. I don't care what anyone else thinks, if I love something then I'm wearing it and totally owning it! I try to be as unique as possible so I wear pieces that I'm not likely to see on someone else. I'm inspired by lots of things but I'd say I'm mostly inspired by random girls walking down the street. I love re-working looks to suit my own style!"

J – "I’m a big believer in wearing pieces you love, no matter whether it’s in style that season or not. I try to fill my wardrobe with things that I will want to wear until they fall apart. You’ll very rarely find me buying plain basics, which is a bit crazy I know! I’ll always go out of my way to get something a bit different. I’m inspired by the clothes themselves, I love that ‘Oooh WANT!’ moment you get when you spy something amazing that you instantly connect with. I hate being restricted by dress codes of any sort; they’re so uninspiring, so I’m a nightmare at buying outfits for events and occasions!"

Beauty wise what do you invest in more (hair care, skincare, make-up) and why?

T - "Oooh, so tricky! I'd say mostly hair care. I have LOADS of hair and I've always been a bit obsessed with keeping it healthy and looking good. The second thing I notice on another woman (after clothes) is her hair!"

J – "Definitely make-up. I’m notoriously naughty when it comes to skincare and hair care (I’m always getting told off by my stylist and my friend’s sister who works for a salon!) but I treat my make-up like clothes;  eye shadows and nail polish are my favourites! Cosmetics are like wearing shoes to me, just an extension of an outfit!"

Do your individual approaches to beauty differ?

T - "I would say I try to keep my make-up as natural as possible, whereas Jade is the more glamorous one! I'm very fair so for me it's all about using pink hues to enhance my features, subtle eye shadow & liner to make me eyes pop. The only exception being nail varnish. When it comes to nail varnish, the brighter the better!"

J – "I do like a bit of glamour! ;) I keep my skin and lips pretty natural but I LOVE bold eyes; tons of eyeliner and false eyelashes! Nails are important to me too. I try to do them at least once a week and I’m always trying out new colours, wraps, art accessories etc. It’s a bit of a passion!"

Any big beauty no-no’s?

T – "Over plucked brows, and brows that are really heavily pencilled in. Brows are SO important in framing the face; it’s the one thing you need to get right before you even start on anything else!"

J – "Foundation that isn’t the right colour for the skin. Faces that are a different colour to the neck and chest make me cringe, there’s no excuse, and we all have eyes (and hopefully honest friends!) – ARGH!"

You’re pretty nifty on the nail art side - any tips for those attempting first time?

T - "Patience and lots of practice! Unless you're a perfectionist, it's unlikely you'll get your nail art spot on the first time you attempt it. Don't fret, take your time and keep trying. I usually have a whole bin full of used cotton buds before I'm happy with the end product. It's definitely worth all the effort when the compliments start rolling in!"

J – "People seem to think you have to throw everything at it when attempting nail art; ten different colours and gems per nail, glitter everywhere etc... and it can end up looking overcrowded and messy. Start off perfecting simple designs; they always look better if you’re not so confident and you can always add to them later once everything has dried!"

We hope you enjoyed the girls answers as much as we did.

Next up for London Fashion Week, Jenni Draper and the Mavala team get to work backstage at the Belle Sauvage S/S12 show to create a modern twist on the traditonal French Mancure.

First prepping the nails with 002 Protective Basecoat, the ladies next applied the opaque White as a solid base for the nails, before coating with the playfully feminine Touch of Provence; leaving only the half moon visible.
